India, The Sacred Land - 6th Grade
Our curriculum for 6th grade, "India, The Sacred Land" imparts:
- The Knowledge of why India is a Sacred Land and what India stands for
- Reverance for Mother India and her glorious heritage
- An understanding of the goal of life revealed in scriptures and lived by our saints
- An understanding and appreciation of what this Sacred (worthy of worship) Land has so abundantly given us to shape our heritage and its contribution to the World.
Our structure for this month's class is:
1) Opening Prayer
Om Saha Navavatu, Saha Nau Bhunaktu,
Saha Viryam Karavavahai,
Tejasvinavadhitam-astu Ma Vidvishavahai,
Om Shanthi Shanthi Shanthi
2) Warm -up activity - a fun fact, riddle or hands-on activity related to curriculum
Examples - List 5 interesting facts that come to your mind when you think of India. Which country does India share its longest territorial border? - a) Nepal, b) Pakistan, c) China d) Bangladesh ? Ask your children for this answer and explanation!
3) Class sharing - Homework is assigned to kids in this class from week to week based on the particular category we are covering in class. This month our class is studying the 29 States of India. Each student has been assigned 1-2 states and have to do research on the Location, Capital, and Language of this State. Additionally a fun/interesting fact about this State. Each student shares their research with the class and the students write these facts in their curriculum booklets (given to all children enrolled in 6th grade Balavihar class).
We have learned some very intriguing facts about our Mother Land that has augmented our enthusiasm to learn more in depth about what else does India have to offer
4) Chanting the National Anthem - We are learning the Indian National Anthem and have started chanting this in class
5) Closing Prayer
