Our curriculum is to teach Bhagavad Gita to the 10th, 11th and 12th
graders. Before we get into Bhagavad Gita, we have covered the stories
from Mahabharat and used the stories to analyze the Cause and Effect,
and what lessons we can learn from them.
From
every episode we discuss, we also suggest how and what we can learn as
per values and making oneself strong with right attitude. Through these episodes We try to analyze the Mahabharat characters and learn from them
The following is an example of one of the stories covered.
Bheema is poisoned
by Duryodhana
Kauravas were always jealous of Pandavas and tried many
schemes to get rid of their cousins. Duryodhana once made lot of sweets and put
poison in them and fed them to Bheema. Then when Bheema fell down under the
influence of poison they threw him in a river full of snakes. The poison from
snakes neutralized the other poison and Bheema survived. Serpent King Vasuki
that lived under the river gave Bheema a boon of strength
Cause: Kauravas forgot the law of Karma and due to jealousy
did wrong acts
Effect: They were suffering each time Pandavas were
victorious and at the same time doing bad karmas that they will suffer
Lesson learned: Law of karma never fails and you have to pay
for your wrong actions. Never give into greed or jealousy and engage in wrong
actions. Jealousy ultimately hurts yourself
We
then relate this to events that have happened in their life and analyze
those events to learn from them. There is a lively discussion that
happens on these topics.
In addition we have taught the children Gita Dhyanam and first shloka of Mahabharat (narayanam namaskritya)
